Census Data
Integrated Public Microdata Series (IPUMS)
The Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) Complete Count Census Data are microdata from the decennial US census records from 1870-1950 are the result of collaboration between IPUMS and the nation’s two largest genealogical organizations— and FamilySearch—and provides a rich source of individual level and household data. Researchers wishing to use the data at Yale must first have their projects approved by IPUMS by emailing them to ipumsres@umn.edu.
Consumer and Spending Data
Infutor
Infutor (formerly known as Verisk Marketing Solutions) offer demographic and household-level consumer information. The 2025 total consumer history dataset is a longitudinal database that tracks 30+ years of historical data on 700+ million US consumers. The data contains current and historical contact information, which includes changes in names, addresses and other personal information over time.
Kilts-Nielsen (DISSC Cowles)
Kilts-Niselen offers product-level sales data from retail and marketing studies. Yale has access to selected consumer consumption information maintained by the Kilts Center for Marketing at the University of Chicago.
MBHS3
Consumer spending data. Proprietary data only available at Yale with de-identified information on credit and debit card transactions since 2019. These data come from various issuers and merchants and cover a substantial portion of U.S. households.
Numerator
Panel data with detailed consumer spending level information.
Numerator is a consumer data company providing insights into modern consumer behavior and trends, offering a multi-channel consumer panel with online and brick-and-mortar purchase information, including prices and payment information. These data cover e-commerce shopping trips as well as in-store purchases such as fast-moving consumer goods, electronics, cannabis, and more.
Numerator’s comprehensive consumer panel dataset includes panelists’ purchase data starting in 2017, with quarterly updates. This dataset covers a wide range of product categories, including durable goods, electronics, cannabis, and much more. The data captures purchases made through both e-commerce and traditional retail channels for home use and consumption.
Health and Pharmacy Data
Managed Markets Insight & Technology (MMIT)
Provides drug formulary and prior authorization (PAR) data covering historical (2017-2022) pharmacy and medical benefit coverage information across thousands of health plans, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and payers in the United States. The data include information on state, plan, covered lives, product class (per the First Databank Compendium), drug name, formulary placement, and utilization management requirements. MMIT receives its data directly from primary documentation, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers, enabling a more complete depiction of Medicaid formulary data than publicly accessible documents alone, and covers 98-99% of all covered lives.
